Mature workers wanted says leading trainer in Penrith

Penrtih’s largest hospitality training organisation is encouraging mature workers to consider working in the hotel, restaurant and club industry where their services are in demand from potential employers.
Managing Director for Uvo Pty Ltd, Stephen Kirkham, said many mature workers who wanted a career change or to only work casually had been ‘snapped-up’ by employers after completing their Government-required Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) courses.

“Uvo conducts training through Registered Training Organisation – ‘Thinq Training’ – at the Penrith RSL Club every week from Monday to Thursday, and on Saturday, and we are finding mature workers are just as successful in being offered employment, and sometimes more so, than their younger colleagues,” Mr Kirkham said.

Penrith RSL Managing Director, Philpe ….., agrees. “Our club is often first to talk to those who have completed the RSA and RSG courses conducted in Penrith through Uvo, and we certainly are happy to have mature workers manning the bar and in other roles.

Mr Kirkham said while the bulk of course participants were school leavers or younger people “on the go”, the older group generally offered potential employers qualities such as work stability, loyalty and availability.

Many of the older group were undertaking the Skills Voucher Programme, And   Australian government intiative that when completed they were awarded a national recongised Hospitality Operations Certificate II.  This progamme was proving popular with people who had been working in the hospitality industry for many years, but who have no formal qualifications..
